Enforced Rest

I the Reilly dog am on enforced rest .....so not fair !!!!  My bad paw has been giving me a LOT of trouble the past week causing me to limp even worse than I normally do and as a result is it also causing some problems with my back. Yesterday when Mom was giving me a brush she noticed a large lump on my back  (next to my spine above my back hip) - she called my dogtor and we went to see him straight away. The lump thankfully turned out to be a badly inflamed and knotted muscle so I have two new medicines and will be getting daily cold laser therapy on it. The hardest thing though - is I have to rest my paw and back for the next week and that means NO walkies.

Note from Mom - Sadly there is not a lot we can do about Reilly's paws - he has severe arthritis in both front paws which had caused his toes to splay and this leaves the inner parts of his pads exposed which is why he has to wear boots when ever we go for a walk. My sweet boy loves his walk more than anything in the world and is such a stoic uncomplaining guy - I am sure if his only option to go for walkies was to crawl on his knees - he would. For now we will just take much shorter walks from and hope and pray his new medications will help ease his arthritis which also is affecting quite a few of his joints as well. The good news is that the lump we found between his toes last week we were so worried about had just disappeared.

  1. Aww, poor Reilly. This is exactly the same thing that my Munchkin went through. I hope the new meds and laser therapy help Reilly out.

  3. Oh Reilly, I'm so sorry you're hurting so much. I hate it when my furiends hurt! Me, Brudder Max, all my pack sisters, and Mommy have their paws crossed real tight and hope you're feeling better real soon and can get back to your walkies again.

  4. I'm so sorry about your troubles sweet Reilly. No walks when it's your favorite is some bitter medicine indeed. Rest and the cold laser therapy - and TLC - will hopefully have you back to health soon.

  5. Oh no pal! I will pray for you and send you healing vibes. I know how important your walks are for you. But in the meantime, just think of all of the extra snuggles you get with mom/dad. And you know what? Bashful LOVES to tell bedtime stories. Maybe he can sack with you and keep you company with Sweet Pea? Hogs and snout kisses. XOXO - Bacon

  6. I hope Reilly is feeling better soon. I do not know if you know about Tumeric. On Facbook there is a group of people who have been using what is called the gold paste. This seems to help alot with arthritis. https://www.facebook.com/groups/415313751866609/

  7. Oh Reilly, poor you!
I've just got off that enforced rest and I know it so annoying, but you must try and get your back better. I bet your Mom will make it as pleasant as possible for you.
Hope you all had a lovely Christmas despite all your sore bits.

  9. Oh dear, poor Reilly, we are so sorry that horrid arthritis has flared up badly again. Human Granny has very severe arthritis so we know how difficult a problem it is. However, we also note that since HGY has been living in a care home, where she gets to rest a lot more and not walk or stand so much, she is experiencing much less pain, so we do think the 'short walks only' treatment is a good idea, at least while things are all inflamed.
Best wishes to you all. Try to be patient!

Wow, I'm so sorry you are having such ouchies! I know what you mean about loving a walkie, but you gotta follow dogtor's orders and rest up. Maybe it will mean more snuggle time with your Mom and that can you feel much better. Lots of healing vibes headed to you, my furiend.

Mom wants to let you know that a police report was filed on Christmas Eve on the death of our cousin Rayne. The officer was very nice and even went to the grandaughters home to check the yard just in case there was any evidence left behind. She closed the doggy door so Tucker cannot go out in the yard anymore when she is not home - he is not happy about that.

  17. Katie can relate to you. She loves to walk more than anything but with her arthritis, it is not very easy for her anymore and she has some issues with her leg strength and picking up her paws as she walks. Life can be unfair sometimes.

  22. Oh dear, poor Reilly! I have seen dog strollers, have you thought about that as an option so he can still get out and about? B loves her hikes and I have thought about what I will do when and if her hips get really bad. Keep us posted on his condition. Hang in there! :)

  24. Wow that's not good. I have some arthritis too. I tried acupuncture before but it didn't seem to do too much for me. But I swim in a hot water pool each weekend and that seems to help with my conditioning and exercise in a weightless environment. I also get a full body hot laser that includes my toes, pads and legs once every two weeks and that seems to help. I also take Hyaflex for my joints http://www.hyaflex.com/about_hyaflex_dog.html and I take a product called Joint Plus made by UBAVet that has Glucosamine HCL in it from my vet. We're hopeful that you'll be up and around soon. Lots of rest certainly won't hurt you although I understand how keen you are to go for walks no matter what. I'm the same Reilly so I understand. My dad got me this awesome wagon that he pulls me around in sometimes. It's padded and has a canopy if needed so we won't get wet if it rains. So if you visit us, my dad will pull us around so you'll get out and still get your rest. So anytime you and your peeps and Denny want to come on by, my wagon and my dad are ready.
