A day at the beach

Did you know MY lake has a beach? No - well it does. Many years ago it use to be a really nice swimming beach but peeps are not allowed to swim there anymore thanks to the Canada Geese whose poop has caused the bacteria levels in the lake to be unsafe.

As we sat on the beach watching the world go by   Mom couldn't help but wonder - if is unsafe to swim in - why do they allow fishing and why would anyone want to eat the fish caught in the lake?  It also make us wonder why they have a dog diving dock - as wouldn't it also be unsafe for doggies to swim in too and what about the beavers - how come they don't sick?

Truly - when our Mom starts this whole pondering business all sorts of crazy things go through her head. As for us - we just tend to just wander off and do some sniffing because really - who wants to be seen with a crazy woman sitting on the beach philosophizing about who knows what with two dogs?

  1. it's a great place, even when I wouldn't swim there. My mom ponders now too, it sounds really crazy... we have that phenomenon here too, there are warning signs that you can't drink the water of our canal but fishing is allowed... I mean the fieshies are quasi pickled in that bad water...

  2. Actually mum has some valid points and no way would we eat fish from there or use the dog diving facilities. Well at least it is a nice place to sit and soak up some rays. Have a serene and easy Sunday.

  3. Well Reilly, they should start hiring some dogs to chase off the geese! I know they do that at airports! You could make a killing!

Even if you can't swim, it sure is a pretty place to hang out and ponder stuff.

  4. I've always wondered the same thing. We've got a few large ponds near us - no swimming, wading, etc - that they stock with fish for folks to catch. They use reclaimed water for the ponds, which, while I'm sure it is clean enough why can you eat the fish if you can't wade in it?

  8. A dog jumping pier? We've never heard of that.
Personally I like to stay four paws on dry land.

  9. A dog jumping pier?? Where can we get one? We have a lake south of us that got an algae growth and makes dogs sick.

  10. Well, our river is pretty dirty, but we still like paddling in it. We think those geese are just trying to make it THEIR private lake.

  11. Lucky dawgs getting to go to the beach!!! We to can't help but wonder why they would let dogs in the water or fishing for fish if the water isn't safe for humans - makes no sense to us.

  13. We're not big fans of Canada Geese either. They poop everywhere. As for the quality of the water, we'll wait until the Mayor drinks a glassful and doesn't get sick, or has to go to the bathroom. Better him than you guys.

  19. Just another reason we hate Canadian Geese! They are beautiful, but they are awful. We wonder the same about closed beaches and stuff. It really makes no sense but since we don't eat fish at our house, it isn't a big concern.

  21. All wonderful questions my friends. A beach is a beach and it looks so wonderful- so peaceful - so relaxing. My mommy LOVES the beaches of any kinds. She does most of her thinking there - just like your mom. XOXO - Bacon

  22. Our lake is also the city's water resource so we can't swim in it. Our other water is the Red River and the undertow is far too dangerous for people or dogs. A dog diving ramp is so cool, but don't get in with the contamination!

  23. Believe it or not people accuse the Montrose Dog Beach for polluting Lake Michigan. Every time the bacteria levels rise and they have to close beaches its always the dog's fault! I don't see dogs pooping in the water, but babies in diapers are okay. I'm with your mom on this guys. Love Dolly
